Year 5 of attempting to catalog a listing of the various hurling events (not limited to pumpkin-throwing, though that does seem to be the vast majority) that are occurring and open to the public to enter. The Burlington event went off as planned, with 4 teams. The Gourdinator, Bob Peterson and his onager, which now is called Bad Wolf, Robert the Bruce with a nice new Modred, and the Girl Scout team for their 3rd year with a trebuchet. All did reasonably well but I don't have the stats, because I did not write much down, and had to leave early, and thought someone else would immortalize them. There were no spectacular mishaps while I was there.
The Gourdinator, which has been on one scene or another for quite a while, was augmented with what some would consider cheating--a compressional spring in a cylinder which when released pulled cords that added extra downward impetus at the start of the weights' descent. I am not sure it added any to the distance, which was impressive as usual. I would be concerned about damage to the machine's frame and weight hangers with a setup like that.
Once again grateful for being privileged to be on Bob's team, and I will provide such details as I scrape up, unless someone else does it first.
